Nokia Smartpur Center Spotlight #6

Hills of Samba District, Jammu and Kashmir – Smartpur Kard

Smartpur Center at Kard Panchayat caters to 6,000 residents living in remote, hard-to-reach areas with limited transportation and access to services.

Smartpur Centre facilitator is Mr. Yashpal Singh, a retired Havaldar from the Indian Army. The center faciliates digital inclusion, ensuring that even the most remote households are connected to essential government schemes and welfare services.

The local economy here thrives on small-scale agriculture, poultry, goat rearing, dairy, and daily wage labour - and the Smartpur Center plays a vital role in linking these livelihoods to digital resources, financial access, and government opportunities.

Working in close coordination with departments like Agriculture, Rural Development, Social Welfare, Revenue, Health, and Animal Husbandry, the center on an average provides 500–550 services across Smartpur Pillars - Livelihood, Education, FI and Governance.

Team takes many of these services right to the doorstep of elderly citizens who can’t travel to the center. Regular awareness sessions, capacity-building activities, and one-on-one guidance is making Smartpur Kard an example of community-driven digital transformation in hilly regions of Jammu.

The team works hard, and tries to have consistent effort, collaboration, and compassion - one village at a time!
