Today we started Day one of the livelihood training for women at Nokia supported Smartpur Kangripora, Budgam District, conducted in collaboration with the Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture, began with an engaging introductory session on food processing led by subject matter experts.
Experts clearly explained the fundamentals of food processing and emphasized the critical role of value addition for fruits and vegetables in increasing shelf life, improving marketability, and boosting household incomes.
Practical examples and local relevance were highlighted—showing how simple techniques like drying, pickling, jam making, and minimal processing can transform seasonal produce into higher-value products.
The experts also outlined market opportunities, basic safety and hygiene practices, and the linkage between quality processing and better prices, encouraging participants to think of processing as a viable micro-enterprise.
Through focused mobilization efforts in the community, 35 women enrolled and actively participated, demonstrating strong interest and setting a positive tone for skill-building and future enterprise development during the training.
